ABOUT me

I am a professional videographer, photographer and website designer based in Hillcrest near Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. I began my creative journey in the late nineties when I started tinkering on my brothers bass guitar that was lying around the house, I began to take it more seriously and in 2000 I got together with some friends and started a band called Spoonfeedas. Our lead singer was a graphic designer by trade and worked at an advertising agency, I used to go sit with him and make a nuisance of myself there while learning all the time. Then I got myself a job at a printing company as a graphic designer myself and it was during this time that I bought my first professional camera.

It's now 13 years later as I type this and although the band lasted 12 years, I'm still doing videography, photography and website design. I had a stint working at a company doing graphic design but much preferred to be self employed.

I am married to a talented marketer named Ruth, we have a baby daughter born in July 2019 who is the light of our lives.

I also do wedding and family photography, you can find my other website here: colinbrowne.co.za

    Colin Browne Media (contd.)

After deciding I wanted more creative control over my work and to explore new challenges, I resigned from The Unlimited. I went back to self employment as a photographer, videographer and web designer. I also have a separate website for my wedding and family photography which you can see here.

    The Unlimited

Having worked in-house as a freelancer for a number of months at a company called The Unlimited, I was offered a permanent position as Senior Graphic Designer. Having decided a stable job suited me at the time, I accepted the position.

I left Absolute Digital when the band I was in signed a recording contract. In between tours and recording albums I continued to do graphic design work. My clients included Island View Storage, Rennies Distribution Services and other Bidvest companies.

    Absolute Digital

Based on my portfolio of private jobs I had done while immersing myself in graphic design, I was asked to join a printing company called Absolute Digital. I was the graphic designer and I ran the wide format printing machine. Whilst there I began doing photo and video shoots.

    In the Beginning

Frustrated in working an unfulfilling job, I started tinkering with Corel Draw on my brothers computer. I was instantly amazed by the world of creative possibility at my fingerprints. I started picking up design work for clients around Hillcrest.
